Picking Up the Pieces After a Flood

Dealing with serious flood damage at home is not the end of the world. And most importantly, it does not have to cost you an arm and a leg to get your home back into living condition again. In fact, you may find (like I did) that recovering from a flood gives you an opportunity to improve the look and feel of your home overall, and even to implement design options that increase the value of your property. I spent about a year fixing up my place after a pipe exploded while I was on vacation, and literally ruined everything inside from the flooring and walls, to my photos and important paperwork. So, I figured I could help others "pick up the pieces" and create a bigger ad better lifestyle at home by turning a flood situation into an opportunity, instead of dealing with it like a crisis.

Looking For A Vacation Home? How Park Models Can Benefit Active Retirees

by Scott Gordon

If you have just retired, you may be in the process of budgeting and downsizing so you can invest in an RV or vacation home for your free time. However, it may be hard to find an RV that has all the amenities you desire, and finding reasonably priced vacation homes may be difficult on your new fixed income. A happy medium between the two is a park model. Here are some benefits of park models you may want to consider.

You Still Get the Luxuries of a Home Without the Hassles

Unlike an RV, a park model has connections to utilities for fixed appliances and has regular home décor. Basically it's a mini-house on wheels. So if you want to enjoy the wilderness without roughing it too much, this is a solid option. And while you want to maintain your independence and active lifestyle well into retirement, cleaning and maintenance tasks can be burdensome if you invest in a large vacation home. But since park models are only about 400 sq. feet (or less), they actually qualify as recreational vehicles and will be much easier to clean.

You Can Situate Your Park Model in a Beautiful Setting

According to Newsweek, senior citizens over the age of 62 can purchase a pass for only $10 that will allow them to attend over 2,000 parks (including National Parks like Yellowstone) for the rest of their lives. If you want to continue an active lifestyle, you may want to invest in a property near one or more of these locations. However, since real estate can be pricey for scenic views and large lots, investing in a park model may be more ideal since you could install the park model in an RV park; and, since Newsweek also says that you could get a 50% discount using the facilities and utilities, you could enjoy a park without making too much of a dent in your wallet. Lastly, when you aren't using the park model, you could rent it out on a daily, weekly, or monthly basis and accrue some of the costs since your home will be in a location that is enticing to other travelers.

Many Park Model Sites Are Senior-Only Locations

According to Living Stingy, many model park sites—like those in Florida—are limited to patrons who are age 55 and older. So you will be able to be among active peers and those who want to enjoy recreational activities like water sports or golfing. Living Stingy also says that unlike the image of a "seedy trailer park," many of these sites are apart of a gated community so they are private and have higher maintenance standards.
