Picking Up the Pieces After a Flood

Dealing with serious flood damage at home is not the end of the world. And most importantly, it does not have to cost you an arm and a leg to get your home back into living condition again. In fact, you may find (like I did) that recovering from a flood gives you an opportunity to improve the look and feel of your home overall, and even to implement design options that increase the value of your property. I spent about a year fixing up my place after a pipe exploded while I was on vacation, and literally ruined everything inside from the flooring and walls, to my photos and important paperwork. So, I figured I could help others "pick up the pieces" and create a bigger ad better lifestyle at home by turning a flood situation into an opportunity, instead of dealing with it like a crisis.

Potential Benefits Of Fire Pit Tables

by Scott Gordon

Those who want to add a little warmth to their backyard have a couple different options, including fire pits and fire tables. Adding some sort of fire pit is among the most popular do-it-yourself projects for backyards in the United States, with approximately 48 percent of people making improvements to their backyards adding fire pits. While both traditional fire pits and fire pit tables are popular and can do the job, there are a few advantages to choosing fire pit tables over fire pits.

Portability

The great thing about buying one of the available fire pit tables online is that this is a portable item, meaning you can take your investment with you should you decide to move. The same isn't true of a built-in fire pit. In fact, a built-in fire pit isn't recommended by all realtors, as some potential buyers see it as a detrimental change, so realtors recommend a portable option instead.

Smoke-Free

Although some people actually like the smell of wood smoke, not everyone likes to have a smoky fire around. This is especially true of people who have breathing difficulties, such as those who suffer from asthma. The Environmental Protection Agency actually recommends limiting the use of regular wood fire pits because of this smoke, which can increase the risk for bronchitis, burning eyes and runny noses. The smoke is also detrimental to overall air quality. Opting for a fire pit table means that the fire will be gas-burning and not produce detrimental smoke.

Less of a Fire Risk

Because a gas fire, such as that used in fire pit tables, can be easily controlled by turning down the gas or turning it off and doesn't produce sparks or leave smoldering embers, it isn't as much of a fire risk as a wood-burning fire pit. This is a big advantage, as outdoor fireplaces and fire pits have caused nearly 3,700 fires.

Multiple Functions

Finally, the most obvious benefit of a fire pit table is that it's just that, a table. This means that it can be used in many more ways. Yes, it can help keep people warm and you can use it to roast marshmallows, but it can also provide a surface for people to gather around and a place for these people to set down their food and drinks.

Potential Considerations

These tables do require a small bit of maintenance, as sometimes debris can get into the gas fire burners and valves, potentially blocking them. They just need to be cleaned out when necessary and perhaps have a professional like David Cooke Industries inspect them from time to time.
